Houston Reads is a literacy promotion and awareness program. Through this initiative, mini book collections are placed in underserved communities. The goal of this program is to encourage reading by providing materials in the home and common places in the community. 

A child can enjoy a book while parents handle business at their leasing office. A teen could read while doing laundry at the local washateria. An adult could pick up a book while waiting for a doctor's appointment. The added bonus is these can all be taken home. These simple acts could help fight illiteracy across the Greater Houston area.
