Named in honor of Mary Beatrice Davidson Kenner, this program provides menstrual supplies to local schools with limited resources. Davidson Kenner revolutionized period care with her invention, the sanitary belt. This paved the way for the variety of options available today. Much like her invention, the goal of this program is to assure girls have access to period products, thus making their day a lot better.
About The Mary Project
According to a study commissioned by Thinx & PERIOD., 84% of students surveyed have either missed class or know someone has because they did not have access to period products. Imagine not have personal supplies then going to your school nurse, only to learn nothing is available there either. With an increase in need and decrease in funds, this has become a common reality.
The Axis Youth Network partners with local middle and high schools to assure the school's nursing office is fully stocked with essential period items through out the school year. Items include pads, travel size wipes, underwear, and disposal bags.
During the back to school season, The Axis partners with other service groups to create and distribute mini kits. Cosmetic bags are filled with supplies and given to girls to keep in their bookbags or purses.
